DAVID MAY AND MARK WALTERS TO ATTEND TESCO CUP REGIONAL FINALS
Former Manchester United player David May will attend the Northern England Tesco Cup Regional Final at Manchester University Sports Ground on Saturday April 25. The Central England Final, attended by Former Aston Villa player Mark Walters, will take place the following day, on Sunday April 26 at the University of Central England.
May and Walters will be on hand to give the youngsters tips as they compete for a place in the Tesco Cup English Final to be held at the Walkers Stadium on May 17. Walters will be joined in Birmingham by women's footballer Marianne Spacey.
As the English teams compete at Regional level, the U13 boys from Northern Ireland will be playing in their National finals. President of the Irish FA Raymond Kennedy will attend the Northern Ireland final on Saturday April 25 at Stangmore Park, Dungannon where defending UK Champions Linfield Youth FC from Belfast will face ARD Youth FC from Newtownards, County Down.
The Tesco Cup is part of a wider commitment to encourage children to get involved in Sport. Now in its fourth year, Tesco works in conjunction with the FA and local communities to help improve the football skills of young players.
Over 3,700 teams have entered the 2008/09 Tesco Cup, competing at County, Regional and then National level in a bid to represent England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland at the Reebok Stadium in May. In 2008, Linfield FC from Northern Ireland won the U13 boys, Belfast Northern Belles won the U14 girls and Scotland's HIBS girls won the U16 girls tournament.
