CAMBRIDGE CITY PROGRESS TO ENGLISH FINAL
Cambridge City U14 girls football team won the Tesco Cup Central England Regional Final at the University of Birmingham on Sunday. The girls now advance to the English Final of the Tesco Cup at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester on 17 May.
Cambridge City faced tough opposition in the final against West Bromwich Albion U14 girls, but scored their first goal in the opening minutes of the game, eventually winning 2-0.
Former England player Mark Walters and England women's player Marianne Spacey attended the tournament and selected the following players to win individual awards:
Best Goalkeeper: Lucy Golding (Prees)
Best Defender: Ashlee Brown (West Bromwich Albion)
Best Midfielder: Hannah Watts (Evesham United Girls)
Best Forward: Natasha Thomas (Waveney Girls)
Player of the Tournament: Georgia Griffiths (West Bromwich Albion)
Tesco Cup Ambassador Mark Walters commented: ‘The Tesco Cup is a fantastic competition, giving youngsters the opportunity to play on a National and International Stage. I have seen a great standard of football at the Central England Regional Final and I look forward to seeing how the teams get on at the National Final in May.'
