Manchester City crowned Tesco Cup Champions
Manchester City U14 girls, representing England, were crowned UK champions at the Tesco Cup football final held at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday. The team took the honours after winning 4 -2 on penalties against Celtic Ladies FC.
Former Republic of Ireland player Andy Townsend and England women's goalkeeper Rachel Brown both attended the event and selected Chloe Ferguson from Manchester City as ‘Defender of the tournament' for her impressive performance on the pitch.
Team Manager Darren Brady said ‘The girls came to the Reebok Stadium on a high after winning the English final last week and to win the UK final is even better. The team have been superb and are very worthy champions. Today's result just proves there are a number of talented footballers in Manchester.'
Andy Towsend and Rachel Brown also chose the following players for individual awards:
Best Goalkeeper: Grace Quinn (Sion Swifts)
Best Defender: Chloe Ferguson (Manchester City)
Best Midfielder: Rachel Halliday (Celtic Ladies)
Best Forward: Emma Beynon (Llangyfelach Girls)
Player of the tournament: Linzi Taylor (Celtic ladies)
